A woman who worked her way up to a senior position in the Federal government fought a very hard fight and knows better than to do this. I can see a senior administrator who is a political appointee doing this.
Now, if the joke teller was a man, would anyone tell him to apologize ? I hope so.
The joke might have been inappropriate, but publicly shaming her was more so. I’ve seen many inappropriate jokes in professional settings, but never a demand for an apology. Maybe because the jokes were told by men.
If it’s funny, you shouldn’t have to apologize to anyone.
